In brief
A pubic library in Wolverhampton City Centre, it opened in 1902. The architect was H. T. Hare, built of brick with yellow terracotta dressings. The foundation stone was laid in the year 1900 by the Duke of York (later King George V). It has been a Grade II* listed building since 1977.

The public library in Wolverhampton Town Centre, was built between 1900 and 1902, from the designs of H. T. Hare (1860 - 1921).

Built in the Free Renaissance style of brick with yellow terracotta dressings and a tile roof between Garrick Street and St George's Parade.

An extension was built to Old Hall Street in the 20th century.

Above the entrance to the Central Library is the Royal Coat of arms.

There is a blue plaque for the architect H. T. Hare (1860 - 1921). He was President of the R.I.B.A. from 1917 to 1919. He designed this building in 1900.

There is also a foundation stone laid on the 23rd of July 1900 by HRH the Duke of York (later King George V from 1910 to 1936).
